Brain Injury Association of Missouri Hosts Survivor and Family Seminar

The Brain Injury Association of Missouri (BIA-MO) will host a Survivor and Family Seminar on March 21, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in the Catherine McAuley Conference Center in Springfield, Missouri. This seminar will feature experts in the field of brain injury, as well as survivors of brain injury and their families sharing their experience and lessons-learned about life with brain injury.
Pre-seminar session includes Brain Injury 101 – a session for individuals and families recently impacted by brain injury, or who are many years of post-injury with unanswered questions. The Loving the New Me session will discuss adjusting to life with a brain injury through a positive attitude and acceptance of the new you or a loved one.
Breakout session topics include Making and Keeping Relationships that will share communication methods to enhance relationships with family and friends. An alternate session is Building Therapy Into Your Day to help survivors of brain injury learn therapies to be completed at home for recovery, strength, activity and fun.
There will be an Ask the Specialists Panel that will consist of brain injury, employment and community living specialists from rural and urban communities. Another session, The Elephant in the Room – Intimacy and Sexuality will discuss intimate relationships following a brain injury. The Seminar will conclude with Guardianship Codes – Proposed Changes session in which proposed changes regarding Missouri Guardianship Laws will be discussed.
The BIA-MO Survivor and Family Seminar Southwest begins at 8:15 am, with the last session concluding by 3:30 pm. This informational seminar is free for survivors and family members, but registration is required.
